Behind the Camera

While I have always loved photography, going through various point and shoot cameras all through childhood, my photography journey really started in April of 2013. I was asked by a lifelong friend and mentor, who knew I was pretty artistic, if I would be interested in assisting her in a large wedding photography shoot. I of course said yes- it sounded like a ton of fun, and it was! I spent the next several years working as a wedding photographer with Brianna Blank, learning all the things that go into composing a beautiful photo, working with clients, and managing a business. I began solo shooting my own weddings, and it truly is history from there.

Since I've been fortunate enough to have so many years spent photographing couples, portraits, and weddings, I've really been able to hone in my skills, develop my style, and learn what my favorite types of photoshoots are. I'd describe my style as rich and timeless. I love photos that are true to life with deep, luxurious color palates. That being said, it's still so much fun to experiment based on lighting, season, the people I'm working with, and just to try something new! I tend to get a bit more experimental at times with portrait work rather than weddings, but at the end of the day I really do keep my photos pretty true to life in their coloring and posing style.

My heart will always be in weddings, but I've really grown to love photographing couples. It's an opportunity to get to know new people, and I love how playful they can get. Fair warning- I can definitely give some pretty interesting prompts to get the best photos out of you! I'm not above asking couples to step into brush to be framed in wildflowers while I climb on logs and rocks, or to get soaked at a beach shoot! I'm more than happy to work within your comfort zone, but sometimes stepping outside of that and trying something new achieves some of the best memories.

If you asked me where I want to be in five years, I'd like to incorporate more travel into my portfolio. I'm very fortunate to have gotten to travel to amazing places all over the world, including Iceland, France, Belgium, Mexico, Belize, Canada, several Caribbean islands, and all over the USA, but I only truly got into travel photography and reaching out to find amazing people for styled shoots abroad recently.

I'd also love to build a small, intimate team to work with on things like resources for other photographers and prospective clients, coming up with super cool content to learn more about getting the best photos possible, and potentially having a studio where my team and I could work together! In the meantime, I'm super lucky to have access to both beautiful studios and tons of outdoor locations in the Buffalo area.

This is the only version of today you'll get to have. Let's make it as memorable as possible.

My Philosophy

Trivia

I photographed my first wedding

Ten years ago

2023 is officially my ten year photography anniversary! I started out by assisting another incredible photographer, and my passion has grown ever since. I still adore getting to work with her, as well as many incredible other vendors.

My favorite lens?

Canon RF 28-70 F.2

This has to be the most versatile, stunning lens I've ever used. It's flexible on wedding days when I'm moving around so much, but still provides that gorgeous boca effect with the lower aperture.

I'll get into weird poses

To get the best shot

I am a total goofball, and not afraid to look silly, weird, or even climb into bushes and get muddy to get the best photo!
